Club Service

Noel Halford leads a well-organised Club Service team which focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring effective functioning of our club.

Our front desk management is the envy of many clubs, thanks in part to the great leadership of our Front Desk member and the willing involvement of so many of our Rotarians.

We hold lively weekly meetings, on most Tuesdays at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, and regularly welcome visitors from other clubs, locally and around the world, to our meetings.  We enjoy a marvelously varied speaker’s program and are inspired, moved and entertained by speakers such as John Millington OAM from Nhill Rotary on the integration of Karen refugees,  speakers from Australian Birth Trauma Association,  and our very own Peter Lugg on Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Cambodia.

Our communication between Board and members is effective due in part to the reports given by leaders of the different projects during the year which keep our members informed about what’s happening in the different Avenues of Service.  Most members are proficient in the use of ClubRunner for all communication between members, Board, and Cluster and it is proving to be most effective.

Our very informative club bulletin is widely read and enjoyed by our members and other Friends of Rotary. We have entered the world of Social Media and have been pleasantly surprised at the number of contacts we receive through facebook.  Our website is regularly updated and invites readers to consider Rotary Hawthorn as their first choice for club membership.
Fellowship falls under the umbrella of Club Service and our fellowship functions are frequent, convivial and at times highly entertaining.

Memorable functions include the President’s Welcome Cocktail party, the ever popular Home Hosting, and Christmas dinner where we may sing carols or rock with Elvis.  Always we have a more formal Changeover dinner to welcome the incoming President, and many members attend the annual District conference and the attendant Club dinner.

Our movie nights are always popular and the occasional theatre nights are well attended. We have an annual picnic at Rocket Park in January, often with a cricket bat and ball. Twilight bowls and a barbeque at Auburn Bowling Club are always fun.
The occasional inter-club exchange visit happens on a weekend and will always include dinners, wine drinking, sightseeing, wine drinking and maybe a casual game of golf - if golf can ever be considered casual!!
