Club Service

Club service has two main functions – Fundraising and Member Services.

The Club’s main fundraising event is the ‘Lift the Lid’ on mental illness lunch held in October every second year. The most recent lunch in October 2024 raised $25,000 in funding for the Club’s service projects.

The Club also has an annual sale of Christmas produce fundraiser in December, which takes orders for hams, Christmas cakes and puddings. This project generates around $8,000 in funds for our service projects.

The Club is also fortunate in having a Trust Fund set up in its name, ‘The Rotary Club of Hawthorn Survey Street Trust Fund’.  The fund is managed by a trust company the directors of which are Club members. The Club can apply to the fund for money for use in community projects.

Member services covers arrangements for Club meetings, organising the Club’s active social program, and the administration of Club membership.  Details of forthcoming Club meetings, speakers and social events are on the Club’s website.

The Club also has a book group (the ‘Bookworms’) that regularly meets online.

Our Club Service is the backbone of Rotary Hawthorn. Terry Kitchen and her team focus on strengthening fellowship and the successful function of our Club and our many events.

From our welcoming Front Desk team, lively Speakers Program, and Fundraising Events, Rotary Hawthorn is a great Club for visitors and new members. Our speakers include outstanding professionals in the areas of medicine, science, community service, writers and our own multi-skilled members.

Each week our Members receive a Bulletin with all the latest news and events, stories from Members, our Guest Speaker for the week. This communication is very important, widely read and enjoyed by our members and other Friends of Rotary.

Our use of Social Media has been a pleasant surprise as the number of contacts we receive through Facebook increases weekly.  Our website is regularly updated and invites readers to consider Rotary Hawthorn as their first choice for club membership.

Fellowship falls under the umbrella of Club Service and our fellowship functions are frequent, convivial and at times highly entertaining.
We have an ongoing successful fundraising and social events calendar:

· Rural adventures each year with partners: Beechworth, Walhalla/Lakes Entrance/Nhill

· Visits to Bionics Institute, Werribee Park Zoo, and Australia Jazz Museum

Our donated funds go to a number of different charities and support our community and international projects.
