Professor Clive May
Development Of Improved Treatments For Heart Disease, Sepsis & Spinal Cord Injury: An Exciting Time!

 

Clive May is a professor at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health at the University of Melbourne and Head of the Neuro-cardiovascular laboratory.

He completed a BSc and PhD at Southampton University, UK. He first worked at GD Searle, a pharmaceutical company, and then at the Medical Unit, St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London before being brought over to the Howard Florey Institute by the Founding Director, Professor Derek Denton.

His main research interest is how the brain and nervous system controls the cardiovascular system, in particular the heart and kidneys in the normal healthy state and what goes wrong in disease. The main projects in his laboratory are development of treatments for heart attacks, heart failure and septic shock. Clive has also played a major role in the development of the “bionic spine” for patients with spinal cord injury'.
