Kate Kelly, The True Story Of Ned's Little Sister
May 04, 2021
Kate Kelly has always been overshadowed by her famous brother Ned, but the talented young woman was a popular public figure in her own right. This moving biography tells her astonishing story in full for the first time. Kate Kelly, the daring sister of legendary bushranger Ned Kelly, was mysteriously found dead in a lagoon outside the NSW town of Forbes in 1898.
At the inquest, Kate's husband Bricky Foster claimed that she was addicted to drink and frequently spoke of suicide. However, a neighbour testified that she had only known Kate to drink since the recent birth of her baby and that she never spoke of suicide. Was it suicide, accident or murder, and why had she changed her name to Ada? While only a teenager, Kate rode as a messenger and decoy for the Kelly Gang, and was present at the gruesome Glenrowan siege. After Ned's execution, she appeared at public gatherings around Australia. Huge crowds came to see her talk and ride, and she helped to popularise the Ned Kelly story as a celebrity in her own right. Then she disappeared from the public eye. Rebecca Wilson is the first to uncover the full story of Kate Kelly's tumultuous life. It will surprise anyone who thought they already knew the story of Australia's most famous outlaw. Rebecca Wilson grew up in Forbes NSW where Kate Kelly lived in the last years of her life. Rebecca has been hearing local stories about Kate all her life, and she has been researching, painting and writing Kate's tragic story for over a decade.

Jun 01, 2021
John McRae has a distinguished career in Information Technology. He is also the Secretary of TreeProject. 'TreeProject gets urban and rural communities working together to put trees back on the land. Their network of trained volunteers grows indigenous seedlings for rural landholders and Landcare groups who need our help with revegetation. For landholders, being able to access seedlings from TreeProject is often all the incentive and encouragement they need to start restoring degraded areas. Working together, they are restoring urgently needed indigenous vegetation and repairing Victoria’s damaged ecosystems. In some 30 years, they have provided very low cost trees for land management in Victoria'. *VIA ZOOM* (We are not meeting at Kooyong). Chair: Geoff Wright

ZOOM Meeting For All, 100 Jobs Of The Future
Aug 31, 2021
Of interest to all, but will also be of interest to your family and friends. Invite them to Zoom in and listen! Join Professor Russell Tytler and Dr Peta White from Deakin University, to hear them discuss the exciting project: 100 Jobs For The Future. From space tourism operator to 100 year counsellor to cricket farmer (yum!), the job for the future will certainly look different. What are these jobs? How will people prepare for these jobs? What skills will be needed? ‘Tuesday 23 July saw the launch of the exciting 100 Jobs of the Future project through the website www.100jobsofthefuture.com. This project involved collaboration between academics at Deakin and Griffith University working in partnership with Ford Australia. The nature of work and Australia’s economy is changing – many of the jobs youth will do in the future, don’t even exist today. The 100 Jobs of the Future report predicts what these jobs could be, based on trends, new technology and demographic changes. The project has sharpened our sense of the key skills that will be important for work in the future, including digital, STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics), creative problem solving, and people skills. These have implications for STEM curricula, with a clear message that we need an increasing focus on critical and creative thinking skill development and continuous learning’. MC: TBA |

ZOOM Meeting For All, Passionate Melbourne F.C. Fan, Former President Melbourne Football Club
Sep 21, 2021
A former President of the Melbourne Football Club, Don is still a passionate fan. He joined the MFC board with Jim Stynes in 2008, and in February 2012 assumed the position of President after Jim stepped down to focus on his courageous health battle. Don eventually stepped down in June 2013 after 5 years as board member. Don, along with all the McLardy McShane team, is a strong supporter of many community initiatives including the Reach Foundation, created by Jim Stynes to inspire and empower Australian Youth to achieve their dreams. He is a former board member and Chairman of Reach, and a former Governor of the Jim Stynes Foundation. He is also heavily involved with the amazingly successful FightMND campaign, led by his friend and AFL legend Neale Daniher.
Don has enjoyed a long career in insurance since he commenced with OAMPS Limited in 1979. He held many roles there culminating in being appointed Managing Director of Australian Operations in 1990. In 1996 Don moved to become a Director and Shareholder of fledgling business Insurance Advisernet (formerly IAA) and assisted in growing that business to over 150 Authorised Representatives (AR’s) across Australia. In 2007, Don merged his own AR business with close friend Mike McShane, and broking company McLardy McShane was established. In 2010, Don & Mike left Insurance Advisernet to commence their own licensed broking company and subsequently AR network under the McLardy McShane brand. Don is still the CEO and has presided over the tremendous growth of the group. He has a Diploma in Financial Services (Broking) and is a Qualified Practising Insurance Broker (QPIB).
