Thanks all those who attended Sunday afternoon at the Vision project orginated by President Elect Katrina FlinnIt was a fine turn out and the ideas and debate flowed among the 20 or so members who attended.  Special thanks to District personnel who lead the activities  Murray Verso, Peter Frueh and Grant Hocking

Investigating a Club Vision
Developing a Vision for an organisation is a common and formal practice in commerce(and other enterprises).  It seeks to synthesize objectives and ideas of participants in that entity to frame a future goal(s) and establish action plans aimed at achieving that goal.   Although a way of defining focus and targets  it is a dynamic thing and should be regularly reviewed.

Last Sunday afternoon Hawthorn Rotary undertook such an exercise, all members were invited to attend.   With help from District people, those who attended looked three years forward tossing around ideas on what membership, club administration, service projects, Foundation interaction and HRC public perception would/should look like.    It was an intense productive few hours.

Any idea was cataloged.  Creative thoughts abounded promoting much discussion.   Thereafter each member's view on the ranking of each, in terms of merit and applicability, was sought.

Certain key points coalesced on the whiteboards and will provide a basis for a committee to analyze and recommend actions and objectives for the club.

This will be outlined to the broader membership at a usual lunch meeting in late April.

The Shadow
At the end of lunch last Tuesday it was surely raining hard.  Members were offering lifts to take other members to their parked cars.  The Shadow observed Lawrence Reddaway refusing such offers, patiently waiting for the rain to ease before pedaling off home along the Gardiner’s Creek bike path.  The Shadow understands that he would have got home reasonably dry – were it not for  a car having sent up a 2 metre spray  from a large puddle in Glenferrie Road, at the very start of his ride.  Gardiner’s Creek was, apparently, running with thrillingly impressive vigor!

Great to see those mobile phones continuing as source of revenue...easy pickings for fine-master Trevor Jones.   The Shadow thanks Ngaire Cannon or was it someone else at that table?

But what about Trevor's boast on football whereby if any of his tips don't win this week he will contribute $5. One scribe provided The Shadow with the following list and Treasurer Ian Gillies has accordingly booked a significant contingent income entry.  Tigers, Hawks, Demons, Giants, Cats, Kangaroos, Bulldogs and Swans.  Thanks and well done Trevor.

Time to Draw the Line.    Hawthorn Rotary support for this special fund raising occasion is highly relevant.

A significant project relationship which Hawthorn Rotary has developed in recent years deals with people in the Baguia region of Timor Leste.  It is seen as a long term project by our club.   Our link with the group Friends of Baguia is a key part of this.

The link to the Friends of Baguia Committee is   https://www.facebook.com/friendsbaguia/

The film explores the fascinating and controversial evolution of the interim offshore boundary between Australia and East Timor and thrusts for a final determination.

Make-ups and Apologies

Lawrence Reddaway always seeks to finalize numbers by Sunday 10pm by collating  responses to attendance at the next meeting.   So please try the electronic response (or phone) or even carrier pidgeon!    Forewarn of any guests at the same time.   This minimizes catering costs.

Geoff Wright collates the attendance information.  He needs to know of  "make up " events.
