President's Ponderings
I pondered in my absence how step in President for the day Bernie Walshe would cope.    Suffice to say I hear that  he kept his usual mature and concise control of the meeting in which President Elect Meredith Hayes gave an outline of her perception of the club's strategic objectives and drivers behind them for next year.     The feedback is that it was all good stuff with strong audience involvement , thanks Meredith.    Thank you Bernie.

Special Meeting Next Week
Next week is another of our meetings where we have longer and special focus on a speaker or topic.   It's an ideal opportunity to invite your partner, friends, colleagues and family to hear some highly relevant facts.

Professor Clive May:
Development Of Improved Treatments For Heart Disease, Sepsis & Spinal Cord Injury: An Exciting Time!

Prof. May's main research interest is how the brain and nervous system controls the cardiovascular system, in particular the heart and kidneys in the normal healthy state and what goes wrong in disease. The main projects in his laboratory are development of treatments for heart attacks, heart failure and septic shock. Clive has also played a major role in the development of the “bionic spine” for patients with spinal cord injury'.

Goals & Strategy 016-17...Meredith Hayes

As one Rotary year closes and the new team considers resourcing and plans for the next , it was timely for President Elect Meredith Hayes to outline some strategies and goals for 2016/17.

In a concise but far reaching delivery she succinctly outlined the issues, operational plans and goals.

Aided by that well known chart of Technology Adaption Life Cycle and its five blocks of characters the audience was reminded of the range of likely responses to change, even within our club and its ongoing universally held objectives to remain relevant and vibrant.   Doubtless many of us wondered where we sat on the curve, see below.

There was general consensus re the four major thrusts of ongoing strategy however.

Membership development focusing on diversity and informal contributions/involvement from friends/family.

Humanitarian Service Projects over a wide range be they small or major District ones

Awareness of Marketing with the Bulletin to alert members to future events and Web Site for public exposure.

Leadership and committee delegation and decision making.

The Shadow Noted

Overhead at the Mock Interviews at Auburn High School were the following admissions "I would have hired a couple of those",  "That last one was A+ and scary, I needed to be polite as she will likely end up as PM",  "Poor lass was overcome", "Don't be fearful of a couple of old .... like us", " I was not as good as some of them when I was 21 let alone 14-15", "I dared not comment on hair or clothing styles today's norms are different"  and so on.   The Shadow was fascinated with the personal confessions of members and their realisations that times have changed .

Passing of Ian Stoney

I thought you might like this sporty and charming photograph of past member and friend Ian Stoney who died on Sunday night-Monday morning in Geelong.  He had Janet, his children and his brother Fr Michael Stoney SJ with him when he died.

Make ups and Apologies

Remember Geoff Wright collates attendance information and he needs to be told of  "make up " events which we attend.

Tell Noel Halford days before of an inability to attend Tuesday.  Late or non apologies raise catering costs.

Also please alert him to attending guests.   Unforeseen higher numbers make problems for a surprised chef in supplying all meals simultaneously.
