Dr John Basarin OAM
'Gallipoli story: from the other side of the trenches'

Dr John Basarin  OAM was born in Istanbul, Turkey. He trained as a chemical engineer and migrated to Australia in 1973. Apart from Melbourne, he has also lived and worked in Norway, the United States, Brazil, Germany and the UK, mainly in the offshore oil & gas business. A long time Rotarian, John has taken on many responsibilities and projects. In 2015, the nation’s highest honour, the Medal of Order of Australia was awarded to Dr John Basarin for his many decades of excellent work on military history, assisting the Rotary community and improving relations with Turkey.

In his retirement, John also combined his passion for travel and history by leading tours to Turkey & to Gallipoli, since 2005. 
 As an expert, John has written many articles, gave radio interviews and was hosted by several national TV shows on the subject that he is passionate about: Gallipoli.
